GM India to enhance production capacity by March

General Motors India, a subsidiary of US based GM today announced that it will double its production at its Talegaon facility starting from March this year. According to the company the move has been taken to catch-up the increasing demand of company's vehicles in the country including the recently launched Chevrolet Beat.
In the starting month of this year company has registered record sales and it is expecting that the trend will remain same in coming months also. Earlier, company was planning to start a second shift at its Talegaon facility in Maharashtra in the month of June but because of boosted demand in the country company decided to start it from month of March this year, 4 months ahead of schedule, said, General Motors India (GMI) Vice- President P Balendran.
The company will be able to produce 400 units of its cars daily against the current production of 200 units per day as the second shift will start at its plant. Where the production of company's compact cars including Chevrolet Spark and Chevrolet Beat is going on from the Talegaon facility, the other models like Chevrolet Tavera, Chevrolet Optra and Chevrolet Aveo are manufactured at Halol in Gujarat.
GM India managed to sell 9,421 units in the month of January this year which is highest-ever single-month sales by GM India in its 13 years of operations in the country. Company is aiming to sell about 1.2 lakh units in current year as compared to 70,00 units in last year. Company currently has 4000 employees across India and it is looking to add 800 more in coming months.
