The Hyundai Alcazar is the latest SUV to cash in on the growing popularity around three-row vehicles in India. It’s coming into a segment that already has the Tata Safari and the MG Hector Plus, both of which are also offered in 6- and 7-seater configurations. When it comes to exterior dimensions, the Alcazar is the smallest car on paper. Surprisingly, it still manages to boast of having the longest wheelbase. The Hector Plus is the longest SUV here while the Safari is the widest and the tallest.

When it comes to engines, the Tata Safari misses out on a petrol motor, and thus we only have the Hector Plus to compare against the Hyundai Alcazar. The Alcazar has a more powerful motor on paper, although the smaller, yet turbocharged, unit of the Hector Plus is able to dish out more torque.

The Alcazar makes do with Creta’s 1.5-litre diesel engine, without any increase in power or torque. The Safari and the Hector Plus on the other hand use a 2.0-litre diesel engine from Fiat, which is also found in the Jeep Compass. The latter is not only bigger but makes way more power and torque than the Alcazar’s smaller engine. The Alcazar does command an edge over the Safari due to its smaller engine, and that is its fuel efficiency.

The Alcazar is then competing with the big boys, while wearing a similar price tag. Its base variant is actually costlier than those of the Safari and the Hector Plus, but that is because even the base variant of the Alcazar is well-loaded.
