JLR to add 1000 jobs in UK to meet Evoque and Freelander 2 global demands

The Tata Motors owned British auto maker Jaguar Land Rover is all set to go into 24 hour-a-day operation to meet the global demands of the Range Rover Evoque and the Freelander. This move to the three shift pattern will be creating around 1000 job openings in the company’s British facilities. The year 2011 registered production of 55,000 Land Rover Freelander 2 and an order of 60,000 Range Rover Evoques. These two vehicles are produced at the company’s Halewood factory in Merseyside. The total strength of the employees will increase to 3500 in the Halewood factory and to 21,000 in the entire UK. The company recruited 5000 employees in the last 18 months for its Britain facility.

In November last year the company had announced 1000 job positions for its Soilhull plant in the West Midlands. Another engine factory near Wolverhamton is in the building phase right now. Tata Motors, last year, had promised 40 product actions from Jaguar Land Rover over next five years till 2016 and had also committed £1.5 billion every year towards total expenditure and product development during this period. The HR director of Jaguar Land Rover, Mr. Des Thurlby stated that the 1000 new job positions testify the company’s intentions of continued growth.

The statistics show that the January 2012 sales figure has gone up by 44 percent against the same period last year. The December quarter saw a boost of 36.7 percent in the sales figures of JLR. As per the company this boost was due to the ‘overwhelming response’ to the Range Rover Evoque whose profits recorded a sales growth of 40.5 percent to Rs. 3,406 crore.
