Update 16th May 2017: All-New Maruti Suzuki Dzire Launched At Rs 5.45 Lakh
The Dzire will continue to get the same engines with 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox
Maruti Suzuki will launch the third-generation of its Swift-based sedan, the Dzire, on May 16, 2017. The new car has lost a few things in the overhaul process. For starters, it's no more the Swift Dzire. Logic says that the brand Dzire is in itself so popular that it doesn't need the ‘Swift’ moniker anymore. It has also lost some weight (85kg in the case of petrol and 105kg in the case of diesel). The automatic transmission (4-speed torque converter) that was there in the second-gen petrol-automatic Dzire is also out of the scene.
The third-gen Dzire will, however, continue to remain a sub-4m compact sedan and it has inherited the new-Swift face as well. We've seen the new Dzire up close and here's our first impression of the car.

What's new in the third-gen Dzire?
-
The new Dzire is based on the Heartect platform. It's also Suzuki's fifth-gen platform, and the Baleno hatchback is built on this platform only. The upcoming Swift will also be built on this platform. This platform is lighter than the previous but is more rigid as well.
-
While the new Dzire continues to remain a sub-4m sedan, its wheelbase has grown by 20mm. It appears to have improved the cabin space.
-
The new Dzire is also wider than the outgoing version by 40mm. Maruti Suzuki has revealed that the front shoulder room is up by 20mm and rear shoulder room has improved by 30mm.
-
It has a ground clearance of 163mm, 7mm lower than the outgoing Dzire.
-
The new Dzire will comply with the upcoming crash test norms of India. It will also get dual front airbags and ABS as standard features.
-
The new Dzire's boot is also more spacious than before. The total volume now is 378 litres, 62 litres more than before.
-
While both the petrol and diesel engines are carried over in the same state of tune, the petrol automatic Dzire will now get AGS/AMT gearbox. Maruti Suzuki used to offer a 4-speed torque converter with the petrol engine previously. Automatic transmission will be available on top three of the four variants – L, V, Z and Z+ - with both petrol and diesel Dzire.
-
The Dzire will come with six exterior colour options - Oxford Blue, Sherwood Brown, Gallant Red, Magma Gray, Silky Silver and Arctic White.
-
The interior theme will be black-beige. There will be faux wood trim at least in the top Z+ variant. Steering wheel will have a flat bottom.
-
Maruti Suzuki will offer a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in at least the top Z+ variant.
-
The new Dzire will also get features like LED projector headlamps, front LED DRLs, rear LED light guides and rear AC vents.
Bookings for the Dzire are already underway, and you can find more info on that here.
The new Dzire will continue to compete against Tata Tigor, Ford Aspire, Honda Amaze, Volkswagen Ameo and Hyundai Xcent. While prices are expected to go slightly up, the new Dzire should remain competitive and within the Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh range.
