Mahindra has finally unveiled their most anticipated product TUV300 at an exciting price of Rs 6.90 lac, ex-showroom, Pune. CarDekho was the first to estimate the right price for TUV300, two days before the launch! Their earlier attempt, Quanto never really took off and with TUV, Mahindra is all set to have another go at the compact 7-seater UV segment.

On the outside, the TUV3OO does look slightly boxy. Mahindra insists that the ‘T’ in the TUV stands for tough and the design is inspired from a battle tank. The front gets large headlamps on either side of a vertical grille lined with some chrome. The bumpers look quite chunky, housing an air dam and a pair of square fog lamps lined with some more chrome. The side looks rather flat as well. No curves or bulges on this one. The shoulder line runs cleanly from headlamp to taillamp and manages to add some character to the plain jane side. The alloy wheels on the top-spec variant do look tiny compared to the overall proportions, we wish Mahindra had gone one size higher with the rims. Blacked-out B and D pillars and a pair of roof rails to complete the side profile. The highlight of the rear has to be the tail-mounted spare wheel. The glass area is rather small and does look slightly out of place.

The interior gets a neat black and beige combo, with splatters of silver inserts to liven things up. The dashboard is entirely new and the design is a welcome change from the aging interiors of the Quanto. The top-spec version gets all the bells and whistles one could ask for. An integrated stereo with USB, Bluetooth and AUX inputs. Steering mounted controls are present as well. The TUV gets a 5+2 seating configurability which distinguishes it from the other compact SUVs in the market. While the ‘+2’ seats are best left to kids, it remains it’s USP - nonetheless.

Under the hood of the TUV300 is the new mHawk80 engine that produces 84bhp of power and 230Nm of torque. The mHawk80 is a tweaked version of the 1.5 litre, 3 cylinder motor from the Quanto. An automated manual transmission is on offer as well along with the standard 5-speed manual. This setup promises a mileage of 18.49 kmpl, ARAI certified.

We shall reserve our comments on how it drives and behaves after a full road test. In the meantime, have a look at TUV300 Review.
