Maruti India is just a step away from achieving the sales mark of 10 lakh units per year as company is going to sell the milestone vehicles tomorrow. By achieving this figure the company will join the league of car makers including Toyota, General Motors, Volkswagen, Ford, Honda, Renault, Hyundai, Suzuki and Nissan, who manufactures more then 1 million units per year. Maruti India recently left behind its parent Suzuki Motors in sales.
When we started the company (in 1981), nobody believed that it would last beyond 3-4 years, nobody believed that it would one day produce even one lakh units. Everybody thought it was just a political gimmick, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Chairman R C Bhargava told PTI.
Maruti India started its business in India in December 1983 by rolling out first Maruti 800 from its Gurgaon Plant. In the financial year 1984-85 the company managed to sell more then 22,000. Now, after almost 26 years of starting of its operations in the country, Maruti India sold more then 85 lakh units of its car models including 100 different variants of 15 different models, last year.
The One millionth vehicle will be a red colour Maruti Swift which is one of the most popular premium hatchbacks in India, and to grace the occasion Suzuki Motor Corp Chairman Osamu Suzuki would be present. Mr Bhargava added that, With right product, proper value, best sales and service network and a tremendous workforce, the future of the company is very bright.
