According to a media report M&M is planning to set up its new plant in South Africa. The company has shown good sales and improved market conditions. Since the beginning of last year, there has been an increase of 80 % in the sales in this region.

Pawan Goenka, Mahindra and Mahindra group president said that it will be really beneficial to start an assembly plant in South Africa. Though the group was unable to tell anything about the location of the plant or the investment on it but there were clear indications that a complete feasibility study has already been done. He also said that opening a plant in South Africa will act as a gateway for the remaining areas of Africa.

Earlier the company had no visions for a local factory in South Africa but the results of better sales have led the company to take the decision of opening a new plant over there.  Also, M&M wants to explore other opportunities in that land. The company has got a strong image with its tractor brand in Ghana, Nigeria, Gambia, Chad and Mali on the West coast of Africa.

Mahindra and Mahindra is actually eyeing on the large commercial vehicle market in South Africa, since it came there  in 2004. So now it plans to make its tractor offerings available to SA as well.
