Less than a week ago he was appointed as the executive chairman of Tata Sons
Tata Motors has been making headlines since the launch of its blockbuster product - the Tiago. The company further marched towards glory when the hatchback became one of the best selling cars in the country last year. However, with the sacking of Cyrus Mistry from the position of chairman of Tata Group, the conglomerate has been making headlines but for very different reasons.
To cap all the mixed reactions from the automotive world, Tata Motors has now announced that Natarajan Chandrasekaran, who was appointed as the executive chairman for Tata Sons less than a week ago, will now be its new chairman. In a regulatory filing the company said, “The board of directors have appointed Natarajan Chandrasekaran as additional director and chairman of the board with immediate effect”.
As far as its presence in the market is concerned, Tata Motors has started 2017 with a bang. It recently took the wraps off the Xenon Yodha LCV and today launched the highly anticipated Hexa. What we do need to see is how Chandrasekaran changes the fortunes of the home-grown auto major to get it running in top gear without any further hiccups in the passenger vehicle sector.
As the year progresses, Tata Motors is expected to launch more products to cater to the passenger vehicle market. The potential game-changers for the Indian automaker can be the Tiago-based compact sedan (Kite 5) and the compact SUV (Nexon), which has also been spied testing on several occasions on Indian roads. Rumours are that Tata Motors is not willing to give up on the struggling Nano either and a diesel-powered version of the car is also being worked upon.
