Skoda India is hoping to create a revolution in the mid-sedan segment with the launch of its new car Skoda Rapid. The Rapid is the rebranded version of the car from Skoda’s sister concern Volkswagen. Skoda Rapid sedan is expected to be placed underVolkswagen Vento price to be the second cheapest sedan after Nissan Sunny in the C-segment cars. According to the recent update, the Skoda Rapid price is expected to be around Rs 6.7 lakhs for the base model of the petrol variant and around Rs 7.7 lakhs for the base model of the diesel variant.

Skoda's new saloon will gun straight againts the likes of Volkswagen Vento , Hyundai Verna and Honda City. Skoda India eyes to fuel sales with its aggressively priced sedan Skoda Rapid and hopes to surpass the sales of Skoda’s flagship model Fabia, which accounts for around 1,500 units a month. Moreover, Thomas Keuhl has reported that Skoda Rapid will set the new benchmarks for Skoda India with its three variants- Skoda Rapid Active, Skoda Rapid Ambition and Skoda Rapid Elegance with each in petrol and diesel variants. Furthermore, the auto major is said to bestow the Skoda Rapid petrol with an automatic gearbox, which will be missing in the diesel variant initially.

Therefore, Skoda Rapid's resemblance with Volkswagen Vento is more than just Skin deep as it runs with the similarities in terms of engines and gearboxes. Like Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid will be offered in 5-speed manual gearbox and 6-speed automatic gearbox coupled with a 1.6 L petrol and diesel engines. Skoda Rapid will be offered with automatic gearbox in the mid-variant for the first time in the car industry heritage. The Skoda Rapid petrol will compete against Honda City which falls insignificant with 1.5 L petrol engine in comparison to Rapid’s 1.6 L engine. On the other hand, base variants of Verna come affixed with 1.4 L engine in both diesel and petrol guise.
