Tata Motors May'14 sales declined by 24%

The cumulative sales of Tata Motors' – passenger & commercial both domestic and export vehicles saw a downfall of 24 percent in the month of May 2014 with 37,525 vehicles rolling out from the showrooms. The company sold in excess of 49,304 in May 2013 approximately 11,779 more vehicle compared to 37,525. Speaking of the domestic sales, even in the domestic market the sales witnessed a fall of 24 percent both passenger and commercial in the month of May'14 compared to May'13. Tata sold 34,334 vehicles in May 2014 nearly 11,096 units less than May 2013 sales of 45,430 units.

Tata Safari Strome

Talking about the passenger cars, Tata's passenger portfolio saw a decline of 17% with 9,230 vehicle rolling out in May 2014 compared to 11,134 in May last year. The sales of the economical range which includes Nano, Indigo eCs and Indica eV2 stands at 6,932 units in May 2014 with a fall of 22% - 1,995 units less compared to May'13 with 8,927 units. The rise of hope comes from the utility range which saw a growth of 4 percent.

Tata's utility range incorporates Sumo Gold, Sumo Grande, Magic based Venture, Safari & Safari Storme, newly launched Movus and the recently updated Aria crossover. The company sold 2,298 units of UVs last month compared to 2,207 vehicles last year same month.

Tata Nano

Tata sold 25,104 units of commercial vehicles in May 2014 resulting in a fall of 27 percent compared to the corresponding period last year with 34,296 units. Tata offers CV in three segments LCV, MCV and HCV , all the three sectors saw decline with LCV standing at 34 percent loss while M&HCV faced a 10 percent loss. Speaking of exports in May 2014, Tata saw a decline of 18 percent with total exports of 3,191 units.

In the last-to-last fiscal year, the home grown manufacturer sold 71,417 vehicles as a whole in both domestic and export (passenger & commercial) markets, which was now lowered by 29%. The domestic market saw a steep fall of 27 percent in the last fiscal year with a total sale of 16,671 units. Furthermore, Nano-Indica-Indigo witnessed 29 percent fall with overall sales of 12,585 units, a loss of nearly 5260 units. The utility range, though did fine last month, saw a downfall of 16% last fiscal year with overall sales of 4,086 units compared to 4,859 unit FY 2012-13. The commercial vehicle sales in the last FY is lowered by 31% with 48,333 unit sales. About the exports in last fiscal, Tata exported 6,413 units accompanied with a downfall of 14 percent.
