Tata Motors to develop 4-8 new cars on Advanced Modular Platform

We reported earlier that Tata Motors, India's leading automaker is working on an advanced modular product (AMP) platform to develop a new range of passenger vehicles. With this architecture, the homegrown carmaker is aiming to target the global automakers, which are using the common platforms to build their vehicles. Tata Motors has an ambition to improve its market share in India and to expand its brand image in the global markets, and this strategy will surely help the company to achieve its ambitious plans of international market expansion and improving local market share.
According to the ET, the Tata Motors is investing in an all-new advanced modular platform for at least 4-8 cars, which includes a compact car, hatchback, sedan and MPV. The company believes that this strategy will help the company to make a comeback in the highly competitive Indian passenger vehicle market. The AMP, which is also called 'X4' internally, is developed by the Tata Motor's European Technical centre and Engineering Research Centre in Pune, India. This modular platform will help the company to develop a cost-competitive products.
The first product based on new Advanced Modular Platform will be ready by 2015-16, and there will be no new product expected before that. The company, however, plans to launch a Vista facelift by mid of 2014 and a sub-4 metre sedan based on Manza or Vista CS. Moreover, Tata Motors will regularly refresh its existing lineup to offer its customers a new range of features and some design upgrades.
Tata Motors is all set to launch the Nano CNG and refreshed Nano with power steering and some added features in the near time. It is also expected that the company might also launch the refreshed Safari Storme and Aria, most likely with an automatic transmission version.
