Tata Nano CNG Trim to Arrive by March 2013

Tata Motors, the homegrown Indian car manufacturer will roll out CNG version of its small car Tata Nano, around the third quarter of FY 2012-13. The big dreams small car Tata Nano with CNG trim was showcased at the New Delhi Auto Expo and the car will be rolled out in India by March 2013. The price of Tata Nano CNG trim is likely to go on a higher side in comparison to the petrol version. Tata Nano will be powered by 624cc MPFI petrol unit, which will be retuned to work under the hood of CNG or Petrol Bi-Fuel configuration, the transmission and the suspension settings will be same of the petrol variant. As the weight of the car has gone on the higher side as compared to the petrol trim, i.e. 710 kg to the previous 600kg , the suspension setting will also be minisculely retuned
Tata Nano seen at the Auto Expo this year was fitted with 15L petrol tank along with a 35L capacity CNG cylinder. The production version is likely to carry the same contour; Tata Motors claims the mileage of Tata Nano CNG trim to be 35 kmpl. The CNG kit will feature a with sequential gas injection system with calibrated EMS that allows for smart switching between CNG and petrol. This system is also able to cut off CNG, in case a leakage is detected. The company claims that the kit will be installed intelligently, so as to not compromise the luggage space inside. The CNG trim will come with a high-tech switchable Bi-fuel Petrol-CNG fuel system with a successive gas injection system with fine tuned EMS that permirts smart switching between CNG and petrol. The system is smart enough to detect a leakage and cut off the CNG supply and the CNG kit will be well placed so as not to effect the luggage space of the car.
