Tata Nano to get bigger as well as diesel engines

Tata Motors’ small wonder Tata Nano is soon going to have a bigger engine. The cheapest car of the world, Tata Nano which presently comes with a 600-cc petrol engine, is now all ready to be launched in a diesel variant besides its new petrol variants. The new engines in Tata Nano will have the capacity of 1,000 cc and more. bove. The company has already started working on the two new engine variants for Nano. However, no specific time or price range has been decided as yet. As per industry sources, it is a part of the company’s strategy to leverage Tata Nano brand across segments. This move of the company will help Tata Motors redefine its focus on the car segment, added the source.
A company executive was quoted saying that presently, Tata Nano is available with a 600-cc engine. By equipping a 1-litre engine, the model will get a brand makeover. He further added that as a product, the Nano would evolve slowly over the years. Nano has become quite a powerful brand. On the other hand, Tata Motors is concentrating on more penetration into the car market. A spokesperson of the company said that Tata Motors is developing a two-cylinder diesel engine for the Tata Nano. The company will take its time for developing and refining the engine to its content. That is why, it would be premature to tell the details like time frame, pricing etc, added the spokesperson.
Vaishali Jajoo, an auto analyst commented that Tatas made their entry into car market only in 2001 with their model Indica. With the company alliance with Jaguar-Land Rover, Tata Motors wishes to raise its presence. Company’s Nano model has got a powerful brand recall. Carl-Peter Forster, CEO & MD, Tata Motors, at a conference of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, commented that the company will look at new segmentation in the passenger car market. However he did no details were provide for the same.
