Tata has decided to go on an offensive in the Indian car market. The carmaker, with its ‘Impact Design Language’ and a whole set of upcoming vehicles, is ready for a crucial comeback. Adding to the wave of upcoming cars, Tata will also launch a new flagship SUV, which is expected to be launched sometime in 2018. During its development phase, it is being called the Q501. Till then, the soon-to-be-launched Hexa will act as Tata’s flagship product.
The all-new Q501 will be placed above the Tata Safari, and will rival the likes of the XUV500. The top variants of this car will lock horns with the Fortuner and the Endeavour. A good news for off-road enthusiasts is that this new SUV will draw inferences from the Land Rover Discovery Sport – a fact that raises our bar of expectations.
Although the car will only use a floor pan similar to the Discovery Sport, just incorporating the JLR DNA will make it a mighty good vehicle. Other than that, it will have its own unique looks and stance, and will not hold any visual similarities to the Rover. In terms of engine, this SUV is expected to bear a new 170bhp, 2.0-litre diesel engine and will be mated to a six-speed manual/automatic transmission. Though there is still some time, ideally Mahindra should gear up and introduce a variant of the Areo SUV before Tata launches its new flagship.
