Toyota launched the Baleno-based Glanza in 2019 with the manual variants priced lower than the corresponding variants of the Baleno. The automatic variants were, however, priced on par with the donor car’s variants. The Urban Cruiser’s variants are expected to be priced similarly compared to that of the Maruti Vitara Brezza.
The Urban Cruiser will feature rain-sensing wipers, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well as 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels same as the Brezza. Inside, it gets the same cabin layout as the Maruti Vitara Brezza except for a dual-tone dark brown upholstery.
In terms of design, the Urban Cruiser features a Fortuner-like front fascia, thanks to a newly designed angular front bumper. It gets a larger two-slat front grille flanked by vertical chrome strips and headlamps on each side. The Urban Cruiser features LED fog lamps with chrome surround and LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs.

Under the hood, the sub-4m SUV will be powered by the same 1.5-litre petrol engine (105PS/138Nm) offered on the donor vehicle. It comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter gearbox. Only the automatic variants of the Urban Cruiser will get the mild-hybrid tech that offers idle engine start/stop, regenerative braking and torque assist. Toyota will offer the Urban Cruiser with a 3-year/1 lakh km warranty as standard compared to the Maruti’s 2-year/40,000km standard coverage.
Toyota is expected to launch the Urban Cruiser in the coming weeks with prices ranging from Rs 8.20 lakh to Rs 11.15 lakh (ex-showroom). It will go up against the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport as well as the upcoming Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite.
