It is a well known fact that Skoda’s first full-size SUV, the Kodiaq, is going to be launched in our country in the coming months. In fact, Skoda has already listed the Kodiaq on their website and some dealers have also started accepting unofficial bookings for the SUV. News has just emerged that the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) has concluded its crash test of the Kodiaq recently, and the upcoming SUV seems to have passed it with flying colours. The Kodiaq has scored a five out of five star safety rating!

While the Kodiaq scored 92 per cent crash protection for adult occupants, it scored 77 per cent for child occupants. The Kodiaq that was tested was equipped with front airbags for the driver and the passenger along with side airbags and a knee airbag for the driver. According to the Euro NCAP, the Kodiaq’s passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal offset crash test.

The Kodiaq made its world debut as the Vision S Concept at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. It is based on the Volkswagen’s modular transverse matrix (MQB) platform that also underpins the Skoda Superb and the recently launched Volkswagen Tiguan. The India-spec Kodiaq is expected to be launched with the choice of two engines - a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol and a 2.0-litre TDI turbocharged diesel. While the petrol version will be coupled to a  7-speed DSG automatic  gearbox, the diesel version will feature a 6-speed DSG gearbox. It will also come with the option of a 4WD powertrain and will be loaded with features like a 10-speaker, 575-watt Canton sound system, optional 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, built-in GPS navigation support and wireless smartphone charging.

Skoda recently unveiled its new mid-size SUV, the Karoq, which replaces the Yeti. This SUV is likely to be introduced in the Indian market in 2018. The Skoda Octavia facelift too is expected to hit Indian showrooms soon. As far as the Kodiaq is concerned, it's prices are likely to hover around the Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh mark and will compete with other SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, the Isuzu MU-X and the recently launched VW Tiguan.
