Revival of Datsun has started riling the worlds biggest manufacturer – Volkswagen, Volkswagen is now planning to build its own low cost brand. This new brand will primarily manufacture vehicles for the emerging auto-sectors such as China, India, and some of the countries of Africa. However, the project of bringing this new brand is yet to be approved by the board of directors and if million things falls in right place, it would be the 13th brand in the Volkswagen clan!
In India, this low cost VW brand would be able to bring the car in the price bracket of Rs 5-6 lakh and is expected to be in showroom by the end of 2016 or by early 2017. By 2016-17, VW India would have a strong dealer network and probably the company will sell the brand in the same showroom like the Nissan did with Datsun. With this low cost brand, the German auto giant is eying to manufacture 5 lakh units a year. In India, bringing vehicles through the low budget brand is a new concept and recently we have witnessed the launch of Datsun Go, a hatch from the Nissan's low cost brand Datsun. Seeing the latest trend, the Volkswagen is also prepping up to woo the middle class. The new brand will have to make vehicles strategically (like Datsun did with Go) maintaining the VW's build quality and continuing to be lighter on the pockets.
