The updated Sonet has been revealed ahead of its 2024 launch and it packs a lot more tech than before

Update (12/01/2024): The Kia Sonet facelift has been launched, with introductory prices starting at Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Features Sonet Facelift gets over Nexon

The recently facelifted Kia Sonet has a refreshed appearance and an extended features list. This subcompact SUV from Kia presents strong competition to the segment-leading Tata Nexon, which also underwent a significant facelift in September 2023. While both SUVs have become more feature-rich with their respective updates, here are 8 things that set the new Kia Sonet apart from the Tata Nexon.

ADAS

Both the Kia Sonet facelift and the Tata Nexon come with a comprehensive list of safety features, including 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera, ESC (electronic stability control), and more. However, the Kia Sonet facelift gets an edge over the Nexon with Level 1 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including forward-collision avoidance, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, and high-beam assist. The ADAS features with the Sonet facelift are only available in the top-spec GTX+ and X-Line variants.

Electrically Adjustable Driver’s Seat

The Kia Sonet facelift comes with a 4-way powered driver’s seat, while the Tata Nexon only gets manually adjustable front seats. Earlier, this feature was only available with the Hyundai Venue, but with the facelift coming in, the Sonet also offers this premium convenience feature, in its HTX+, GTX+ and X-Line variants.

LED Sound Ambient Lighting

The Kia Sonet continues to offer LED sound ambient lighting feature on the front doors, where the colours and effects of the ambient lighting vary according to the music being played. This feature is available on the mid-spec HTX+, GTX+ and X-Line variants of the Sonet facelift. Meanwhile, the 2023 Nexon does not offer any form of ambient lighting.

All Doors One-touch Up/Down Power Windows

The top-spec X-Line trim of the Kia Sonet facelift is equipped with one-touch auto up/down function for all four power windows, whereas the mid-spec variants only feature this convenience for the driver side. In contrast, the Tata Nexon offers the auto up/down power window solely for the driver side, that too on its top-spec Fearless variant.

The Kia Sonet facelift also comes with a smart key through which you can start its engine remotely. This feature is available with the mid-spec HTX+ variant of the Sonet facelift, enabling the Kia sub-4m SUV to offer features like cabin pre-cool.

More Advanced Transmission Options

Both the Kia Sonet facelift and the Tata Nexon come with a variety of transmission options, but it’s the Sonet facelift which gets a more advanced 6-speed iMT (manual without clutch pedal) and 6-speed torque converter for the diesel variants. The Nexon diesel, on the other hand, only gets a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed AMT. The petrol variant of both SUVs get dual clutch transmission (DCT) options.

Traction Modes

Both subcompact SUVs come with multiple drive modes, but the Kia Sonet facelift also offers three traction modes: Snow, Mud, and Sand. These traction modes adjust wheel slippage, engine torque, and shift patterns to provide optimal grip levels in varied driving conditions.

All-wheel Disc Brakes

When it comes to braking performance, the Kia Sonet goes a step further with all-wheel disc brakes, whereas the Nexon is equipped with front disc brakes only. All-wheel disc brakes contribute to more controlled braking, ultimately reducing the braking distance.

These are 8 advantages that the Kia Sonet facelift offers over the Tata Nexon. Kia is yet to announce the prices of the Sonet facelift, while its bookings are scheduled to begin from December 20. Which of these SUVs would you prefer? Let us know in the comments section below.
