Audi to develop high-performing fuel-efficient engines

Germany based leading luxury car maker Audi is mulling over the option of upgrading its engines in a bid to achieve a higher fuel economy and lower emission level. The company's aim is to downsize the engines so that the best combination of performance and mileage can be achieved. The brand-Audi is popular all over the world for its unmatched performance. However, the fuel economy of its cars fall much lower than the likes of Mercedes-Benz and BMW.
The German auto giant had unveiled its powerful 4.2L V8 power-train in the year 2004 and had promoted it as the best Audi engine ever, since year 1995. However, just a few years later the company launched its V6 engine that offered an improved fuel economy along with better performance. Gong in the same flow, the company now wants to develop an even more efficient engine for its cars. The company's spokesman had recently stated that the company is working hard on developing a better fuel efficient and high performing engine. He added that Audi is pursuing an engine downsizing strategy when appropriate for the market segment.
Mean while in India, the company is planning to enhance its market share to 25 percent by the end of year 2010. Audi India currently accounts for more than 20 per cent share in the luxury car market in the country. As per Mr Michael Perschke, Audi India Director, the company plans to have a market share of 25 per cent in India by the end of this year on the back of an increasing demand for luxury cars. He also said that Audi India is the fastest-growing premium brand in the Indian market with a growth of 71 per cent and it is number three in the premium car market.
