Honda India is planning to get its premium sedan Accord back in India by 2016. As announced by the company’s recently appointed President and CEO, Katsushi Inoue. The chief said that they will be getting Accord to India and along with the one powered by 2.4-litre petrol motor, they will also bring the hybrid variant.
Speaking of the Accord in India, Honda phased it out back in 2013 and until now, did not have any plans to relaunch it as the manufacturer was focusing on its small car platform that include Brio, Amaze, Mobilio and Jazz. But as the production of Jazz has reached its final stages, Honda is exporting it to places and the launch date is also declared, July 8th, it can now focus on putting its brand benchmark back by introducing Accord.
While Accord was being discontinued in India, back in 2013, the world received the 9th generation of this sedan. Hence, the 2016 Accord will be a mid-life facelift of the same 9th Generation car.
The upcoming Honda Accord will be stacked against the likes of Skoda Superb and VW Passat that may be launched at the same time as that of Accord. Also in the competition, there will be Toyota Camry that is currently doing just fine in its elements, especially the hybrid variant that is accounting for 70 percent of its sale.
Moreover, Honda may face another trouble in the name of Audi, BMW and Merc that are slowly cutting down their prices to make some of their models more affordable, certainly by increasing localization. Cars like Audi A3, Mercedes-Benz CLA are attracting a good volume of buyers.
