Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest and Ford Figo concept- New Additions in Compact sedan segment

Considering the fact, the compact sedan segment in the Indian car market has been rapidly expanding, and so, we are observing many new cars coming up in this particular segment. The currently running Auto Event- Auto Expo’14, has observed many new sub-4 metre sedans unveiled. The major cars include- Tata Zest, Ford Figo concept and Hyundai Xcent. Let’s discuss in detail these newly unveiled models.

Ford Figo concept

Ford India went on unveiling its global compact sedan concept just a day before the kickstart of Auto Expo’14. With this reveal, Ford marks its entry into the sub-4 metre sedan segment in India. The new Figo concept represents an all-together a refined design language of the company; gets new trapezoidal grille, blacked out headlamps and a very bold appeal to catch immediate attention of the on-lookers. Painted in bright red paint, the new concept looks really attractive. The model is the result of Ford’s new design DNA, and that has made the car look high on aerodynamics. There are several technological advancements put into this car that would consolidate the positioning of the car in B segment models. The highlights of the model comprises of spacious cabin, contemporary styling, greater fuel efficiency and unbeatable driving dynamics. The sedan could come up with 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engines; also found in their Figo hatchback car. It is also expected to get powered with a 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine which also duties the Ecosport SUV model by Ford.

Hyundai Xcent

Hyundai India made its entry into the compact sedan segment with its all-new Xcent model. With this unveil; the new Xcent ended all the anticipations that were around this car before its introduction in India. The sub-4 metre sedan has been developed keeping the Indian driving needs into consideration, while it inherits the company’s popular ‘Fluidic design’ attributes to its exteriors. Outside profile comprises of highlights like swept back smoked headlamp, wrap-around tail lamps with chrome inserts, chrome finish hexagonal air dam, wide daylight opening area and front bumper with integrated spoiler design, and diamond cut alloy wheels with classy looking door handles. Other attributes of the sedan are complete by build up of spacious cabin, best-in-class boot space, decent amount of legroom and headroom, and ergonomically positioned controls inside. The wagon gets a feature full package incorporated which includes several features like, rear AC vents, rear parking camera and sensors, 2 DIN audio with USB with 1 GB internal memory, steering mounted controls, dual airbags, Antilock braking system (ABS), rear defogger and many others.

Tata Zest

Tata Motors has come up with an innovative DNA with its newly introduced vehicles- Tata Zest and Bolt. Particularly, the Zest is the sub-4 metre sedan that would soon be launching in India this year. The new DNA has been conceptualised with DesigNext, DriveNext and ConnectNext attributes. In terms of design, the sedan features Tata grill with the Humanity Line and a dynamic silhouette, while strikingly new color palette completes its appeal. Not just looks, the new Zest compact sedan has several advanced features including 5-inch touchscreen multimedia system with Bluetooth and Sat-Nav, EPAS (Electronic power assisted system), ABS, speed sensitive power steering and active return function. Under the hood, the new Tata Zest gets the 1.2-litre Tutbocharged diesel engine that churns out a maximum power output of 83.4bhp, while the diesel model has 1.3-litre Fiat’s multi-jet mill producing 90PS.
