Skoda Rapid can be seen in its final avatar tomorrow on October 7, 2011 when the first Rapid will roll out from Volkswagen’s unit at Chakan near Pune. Skoda Rapid priced most probably at Rs 8 lakh will launch after a few days. Skoda Rapid can trigger off Skoda’s sale as anticipation about this new car is quite high and that too during festive season. Skoda Rapid based on Volkswagen Vento’s platform is more like an elongated Skoda Fabia from front. Skoda India has tried to retain some standard design elements of Skoda but the tail section will be more or less identical to the Volkswagen Vento.

Skoda Rapid reviews suggest that the high-end variant of Skoda Laura can go as high as Rs 9 lakh- Rs 9.3 lakh. Initial information suggests that the 1.6-litre diesel and petrol engine borrowed from VW Vento produces around 104 bhp and both manual and automatic options will be offered. Albeit, only time can reveal if Skoda will offer a diesel automatic variant to differentiate it from the Vento petrol automatic. Skoda is also at its heels to develop a MissionL concept car that was revealed at this Frankfurt Motor Show. A wider and longer version of the Rapid, the MissionL will be positioned in the Rs 10 lakh-Rs 12 lakh price ambits to fill in the gap left behind by the phased out Skoda Octavia. The MissionL may sport a notchback design like the demised Octavia or extant Skoda Laura and could have a bit more space on the inside than the Skoda Rapid while boasting of more features. The upcoming car is expected to hit Indian showrooms by late-2012/early-2013.
