Skoda's upcoming sedan Skoda Rapid spied

Skoda Rapid is the upcoming C-segment offering from Skoda. The sedan was recently spied on the outskirts of Pune in Maharashtra. This car was highly camouflaged during the drive. Since it was highly camouflaged, so styling and other details about the vehicle were not visible. However, it gave clear hints about the overall design of this car.  The internal project code of this car is VW SK251. Its design is more inspired from Skoda Fabia, its hatchback. The styling of Skoda Rapid will be different from latest styling concept Vision D of Skoda. Closely observed, one can easily establish links of this car with Volkswagen Vento.

Rear view mirrors and the design of the side panels are similar to Volkswagen Vento. Design of headlamp and front grille may be similar to Skoda Fabia. It is likely that Volkswagen-Skoda will place Skoda Rapid just below Volkswagen Vento for avoiding any sort of sibling’s rivalry. It is obvious that gadgets in Skoda Rapid will be less in comparison with Vento. Skoda Rapid price in India is expected to start from Rs 6.5 Lakh.  Skoda rapid will have 1.6ltr diesel as well as petrol engine. Vento also has same engine at present. However, it is expected that the engine may be re-mapped to get most of the torque and power characteristics. It is likely that Skoda Rapid will be previewed by Skoda at Auto Expo 2012 to be held at New Delhi.
 
After few months of its launch, Vento captured the crown of C-segment leader in the market. Earlier this crown was with Honda City. This credit goes to efforts of the product planning team that brought decent diesel sedan at reasonable price. Now it is hoped that Skoda Rapid will also target the entry level of the sedan segment. At present Maruti SX4 is ruling this place. It is likely that Skoda may aggressively price Rapid to appear as a threat to the other sedans in competition like Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Mahindra Verito, Hyundai Verna Fluidic and Tata Manza even.
