Tata Motors, country's leading car maker, may launch a diesel version of Tata Nano in India soon. As per the unconfirmed reports the Tata Motors may launch the diesel version of Tata Nano in partnership with Bosch to keep its price as low as possible. It will possibly be powered with a common diesel rail unit –Bosch CRS 1.1 based on a single cylinder motor.
If the Speculations are true then the new Tata Nano diesel will be launched with a 600 to 700cc engine, which will generate a maximum power of 30bhp and a comparably high torque. Though, there is no conformation from the company's side regarding the launch date and specifications of the vehicle. As the company is expanding its capacity at its Sanand plant in Gujarat, it is expected that the model will be launched in India before its scheduled time.
As the major car makers including Maruti, Honda, Nissan-Renault, Fiat and General Motors are also planning to launch their small cars in India, Tata Motors is working hard to maintain the potential market share of Tata Nano, and the new diesel version can be seen as the first step towards it. The company has recently launched a new version of its Tata Indigo CS model, which is compatible to the new BS-IV emission norms.
Popular cars in the hatchback segment in India are Maruti Swift and Ritz, Skoda Fabia, Hyundai i10 and i20, Volkswagen Polo and Ford Figo.
