Volkswagen has unveiled Tiguan at the ongoing 2016 Auto Expo. The car is based on Volkswagen Group’s Modularer Querbaukasten (MQB) platform and will rival Ford’s all-new Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and Chevrolet Trailblazer. The MQB platform is 100 kilograms lighter than the PQ35 platform, which acts advantageous for the car. The Tiguan has some upgraded features like online assistance and automatic accident notification. It also provides the driver with traffic updates , parking space info and vehicle status report. It gets a rearview camera system and keyless access with push-button start. The music system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for added comfort of music enthusiasts. On the safety side, the car has airbags accompanied with ABS and EBD. As far as looks are concerned, this crossover looks more like an SUV, thanks to the taller stance given to the car.
“With outstanding 4x4 performance, Tiguan is a blend of luxury, handling, safety and efficiency, fusing the global attributes of innovation and connectivity to category codes of SUVs in India,” the carmaker stated on an occasion. The car is powered by a 2.0 litre diesel mill churning out a maximum power of 148 bhp. The powerhouse comes mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The vehicle is also offered in an all-wheel-drive variant for those who love taking the alternate route.
Tiguan concept was previously revealed at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. It is highly anticipated that Volkswagen's AWD setup - 4Motion will come in the car. Tiguan is expected to come through the CKD route to India. Here it will compete more closely with 2.2 litre mill of the all-new Endeavour, which can generate a maximum power of 158 bhp.
