Mahindra seeks to develop synergy with South Korean subsidiary Ssangyong

Mahindra and Mahindra has reportedly decided to move their Vice president of manufacturing operations, Hemant Sikka to its South Korean subsidiary Ssangyong Motors. It is the step taken by the Indian auto major towards expanding its business overseas. Mr Sikka, who also leads the sourcing team in India is appointed as the head of the global sourcing for SYMC in South Korea.

A circular regarding Sikka's appointment in South Korea as the global sourcing head has already been issued at M&M. Mr Sikka's role at SYMC will include consolidating the sourcing of M&M and SYMC to bring in profits for the South Korean subsidiary. Apparently Sikka will be the first to get the on site exposure as the functional head of the manufacturing department at SYMC. Pawan Goenka, the president of automotive and farm equipment and chairman of SsangYong and Dilip Sundaram, the CFO of SsangYong will join Sikka shortly as apart of global exposure. Sikka is said to report Lee Yoo-il, the president and CEO of SYMC.

The SYMC vehicle sales are reported to have grown by 52% to 66,636, taking the exports into consideration during the Jan-July period of this year. With Sikka leading the global sourcing for SYMC, now its is his prerogative to further bring good sales volume for the Ssangyong Motor. The South Korean company is set to reach the target of $3 billion turnover by the end of this calendar year.

Vijay Kalra, VP manufacturing at GM India is said to take over the responsibilities from Sikka to head the manufacturing operations at M&M.The market experts commenting on the strategy implemented by M&M say that, the Indian auto brand will have to focus on getting to the bottom of the international market business at the same time identify the production capabilities of the Ssangyong to expand its production. Nevertheless, one should not forget to mention the economic situation in Europe.
