Maruti Suzuki India which suffered from various strikes and other labour problems in recent times has finally found a solution to put a halt on its woes. The labour related issues that started in mid 2011 have been taken care of by the official registration of worker's union at the company's Manesar plant on 27th of February. The union which has been named as the ‘Maruti Suzuki Employees' Union' will begin functioning from 1st of March. It will comprise of 12 members, all of them being permanent employees. It will be headed by Mr Ram Mehar Singh and Mr Sarabjeet Singh will be the general secretary. As confirmed by a source from Maruti Suzuki India, the move will help in strengthening the relationship between the management and the workers. Moreover it will lead to a peaceful working environment in the company.
The source further revealed that there is now a chance of formation of two more groups, a Grievance Redressal Committee and Labour Welfare Committee as this was promised by the company during its agreement with the workers which was signed last year. Both the committees will have members which will represent the worker's union. The formation of this union has been done after a long fight between the management and the workers. A similar union was earlier disapproved by the management. External political interference was given as a reason for this. The members of the earlier union were asked to leave and were giver voluntary retirement packages. This in turn affected the company's growth. They lost 83000 units of output and suffered a revenue of Rs 2500 crore due to the long strikes at their plants. However, now with the announcement of the Union's formation, Maruti Suzuki India's shares went up by 1.14 percent yesterday.
