SIAM appreciates Indian Government move for the Electric Cars

Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) is pleased with the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) by the Government of India, for giving its support in implementing substitute fuels for surface transportation programme, mainly for Electric Cars on the Indian shores. The government announced a package for Rs 95 crore for Battery Operated Vehicles (BOVs), Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles (PHEVs), the Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) and Electric/Exercise-Bike Generator Inverter (E2BI) as the transportation medium. These initiatives certainly depict Government's concern towards environment. This is going to appreciate sustainable development in India.

Dr Pawan Goenka, the President of SIAM and the President of (Automotive & Farm Equipment) Mahindra & Mahindra, has appreciated the efforts taken by the government. He also said that, the auto sector is obliged by the step taken by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

Dr Goenka, also said that, the continuation of the ongoing schemes which is covering all the category individuals in India. The institutional users will be going far in enhancing the development of the new genre technology in cars and other vehicles.

The auto sector has highly acknowledged the initiative by the Government to support the indigenous growth against imports with a requirement of bare minimum 30 per cent different components which are used in the electric cars.

Dr Goenka also spoke about the Government initiative to make a National Electric Vehicle Mobility Plan which will be vigilant at technological and infrastructure requirement for the making of Electric Cars in India in the coming ten years. He also mentioned that SIAM will provide its support in all these endeavours to the Government.

Government has also declared the incentives for the rest of the period of the 11th Five-year Plan. Dr Goenka also mentioned that, the government will carry on its support in the 12th Five Year Plan. As electric cars is a new genre technology leap programme and it will seek government support in the long run.
